About the Area

The town of Lake Lure is located in the beautiful Western North Carolina Mountains in the Hickory Nut Gorge. Lake Lure itself is a 736 acre semi private lake with 27 miles of shoreline and has been called “One of the most beautiful man made lakes in the world” by National Geographic Magazine.

Lake Lure also feeds several smaller lakes in the area such as Bald Mountain Lake which is owned by the Rumbling Bald Resort Community, this smaller lake is completely private, only owners and guests of homes on the shoreline at Bald Mountain Lake are permitted to use this lovely lake as well as the other resort amenities including two outdoor pools, indoor pool, lazy river, two 18 hole championship golf courses, mini golf, tennis courts, and beach as well as a marina on Lake Lure.

The Hickory Nut Gorge is also home to Chimney Rock State Park which in January 2009 was listed #3 best scenic view in the South by Southern Living Magazine. If you have ever visited Chimney Rock, you would know why! You could spend a whole day in this state park and then visit Chimney Rock village right outside the gates. The village is made up of unique shops featuring locally made crafts and wood carvings and wonderful local restaurants.

Our thermal belt climate gives residents of this area four distinct and beautiful seasons. During the Springtime the temperature is mild, the weather is just perfect for canoeing, and swimming in the lake or hiking. Summer is our most popular time to visit, long days during the months of June, July, and August make a week’s vacation in the mountains last even longer! Of course, Fall in the mountains of Western North Carolina is the most beautiful time to view scenery, take long drives on mountain roads and get lost in the majesty of your natural surroundings. This is even more true in the Hickory Nut Gorge as we are in the “thermal belt”, long after the leaves lining the Blue Ridge Parkway have turned brown and fallen away, Lake Lure is surrounded by the brilliant orange, purple, red, and yellow hues of Autumn. Even the Winter months are mild with a hand full of snow falls each year and very little ice. In close by Hendersonville however, you can take a day and go snow skiing.  No matter what time of year it is, we would love to host your stay in Lake Lure, NC!
