Lake Lure is a 736 acre semi private lake with 27 miles of shoreline. It has been called "one of the most beautiful man made lakes in the world" by National Geographic Magazine. Major motion pictures have been filmed here including Dirty Dancing, Firestarter, A Breed Apart, and more recently, The Last of the Mohicans. In addition, Lake lure is the setting for Phyllis Whitney's novel, "Star Flight".

Southeast, our closest major city is Charlotte, about a 2 hour drive. To the south, we are only about 1.5 hours from Greenville, S.C. and about 3 hours from Atlanta, GA.  

Small convenience stores, and restaurants, are plentiful through the Gorge. Three medical clinics serve our immediate area. Each is fully staffed and equipped. In addition, there are four large hospitals within a 20-45 minute drive.
